Nurses on duty at the Bigelow Pediatric ward.

The memories of this inspired her to bring gift bags of “Christmas without Santa” books and posters to the children residing in Pediatric Units of Ellison and Bigelow. In addition, the nurses on duty were given Christmas cards for the unselfish work they do.

The nurses were delighted to see Rochelle, her daughter Misha (18), son Gabriel (4) and friend Kyree (19) bringing bright paper packages tied up with strings…. The head nurse on Bigelow offered to write a letter of gratitude for their short visit, but Rochelle refused her stating… “This mission was of a personal kind and seeing your faces made it all worthwhile.”

When they arrived on Ellison one young girl was greeted by Antler adorned Gabriel while she was enjoying a private moment nestled in bed with her mom.  This little girl took the package and handed to her mom whose face bared a similar expression that Gabe’s widowed mother recognized (her own).

“The look on her mom’s face made me recall Christmas ’05 and my tenth anniversary with Richard where I would prop up beside him in bed and enjoy the intimacy while hoping that all would be well, however the bravery and nonchalant way the little girl took the book as if she were sitting at home being handed something from a brother gave me the confidence that indeed she would have a wonderful outcome to her visit on the ward, at least that is my prayer”

Indeed the visit to MGH was a wonderful way to close what started as a magnificent evening.

Christmas without Santa” by Deb Cornin Brings Cheer to Children at Mass General

Author Deborah Cornin, husband Errol
and boys Leland and Theophilus.

Author and Doll Maker Extraordinaire, Deb Cornin, had an elegant début book signing at Pierrot Bistrot at the foot of Beacon Hill in Boston.  The crowd enjoyed live jazz music and mouth-watering French Cuisine as they ooh and awed the handmade play-scale doll house and scene she brought to exhibit.

The restaurant was decorated for the occasion and the open brick walls and Pierrot the Clown décor brought a warm ambiance to generate a home like warmth in the atmosphere.

As guest purchased signed copies and gift bags full of goodies, the author accomplished the mission of sharing this wonderful, new and fresh, holiday story of how a little boy (her son) is perplexed over whether to believe in Santa or the Nativity of the Christ child.

During the event, Deb's son Leland did a rendition of "Glory, Glory" as a special gift to Publishing Agent Rochelle O'Neal Thorpe, for hosting the book signing. see video

Following this wonderful event, Rochelle had a little excursion of her on to make just across the street.

Sam, Deb, and Rochelle at Pierrot Bistrot Francois.

Just three years ago, Richard Thorpe, her husband of 10 years, would enjoy romantic dinners for two at Pierrot Bistrot following late night classes at Emerson College, where she met classmate Sam Sosnitsky the Bistro’s owner and manager.

Unfortunately during her last semester of classes Richard was diagnosed with Leukemia and their rendezvous moved across the street to Mass General Hospital in the Ellison Wing.
